                      Our Approach

A Plus Tutorial began in 1994 with one tutor going house to house to help students.  Parents told other parents about A Plus Tutorial and students told other students.  By 1996, there were more students than one tutor could handle within a "one on one" schedule.  The question was obvious, "Will tutoring more than one student at a time decrease the quality of tutoring?"  The answer was also obvious, "No."  One-on-one tutors spend as much time watching their student work as they do teaching their student a particular topic.

A Plus Tutorial strongly believes in tutoring small groups of students at the same time.  We tutor in small groups of 3 students to 1 teacher ( a 3:1 ratio ).  We have used this 3:1 configuration since 1996 and we are very happy with the continued student success.  Each student in the group receives  personalized instruction and individual attention.  Our tutors help students work on their homework, strengthen mathematic weaknesses, and prepare for in-class tests and quizzes.

A Plus Tutorial strives to give every student a positive experience in mathematics.  Most students who are having trouble in math class don't even think a positive math experience is possible.  Since 1994, we have been showing students that math tutoring can be a very positive experience and learning math can actually be fun!

A Plus Tutorial separates itself from other math tutors by helping students with exactly the material they are working on in class.  Students who have trouble completing homework assignments will have at lease as much trouble passing a test.  If a student can't complete homework assignments and can't pass a test, they will have trouble earning a desirable grade.  We want students to earn an A+ !!  It all begins with homework.  We also understand the importance of helping students with math topics previously covered but not adequately learned.   That is why we sometimes have to put a homework assignment on hold, just for a few minutes, while we re-teach an old skill.  This method of tutoring is one of the most important secrets to our success at A Plus Tutorial.

A Plus Tutorial encourages teacher - tutor communication.  Teachers get to see students every day.  A Plus Tutorial gets to see a student twice a week on average.  A teacher's input may be the difference between success and failure.  A Plus tutorial wants as much communication with teachers as a teacher will allow.  We encourage teachers to call or email us if they notice that one of our students didn't really understand something in class.  We will gladly reinforce the teacher's lesson while the student is in our office.

A Plus Tutorial teaches students invaluable study skills.  Why don't we mandate that every student in school take an age appropriate study skills class?  I don't know either.  But in the absence of that mandate, A Plus Tutorial teaches every enrolled student how to study today's class topic, how to study for a quiz or test on current material, and how to be prepared for tomorrow's class.  Anyone can learn these skills and they can even be adapted for use in other subjects.  Our "Daily Review Schedule" is the key to increased test and quiz scores.  Just a few extra minutes of review each day can make the difference a student is looking for.

A Plus Tutorial wants to help your student earn better grades!
